Step into the languid beauty of an 18th-century Italian countryside with the Summer Villa IOD Paint Inlay by Iron Orchid Designs. This breathtaking 8-sheet collection is rendered entirely in a sophisticated grey-and-white palette, evoking the look of antique copper-plate engravings. Sweeping pastoral landscapes unfold across each sheet — ancient stone aqueducts framing distant mountains, towering hardwood trees with billowing canopies, a reclining ox at the water’s edge, anglers fishing from a rocky bank, and a lone bird drifting across a cloud-streaked sky. Every scene is a masterwork of line and shadow, designed to tile seamlessly across large furniture surfaces.
Imagine a full-sized armoire wrapped in a continuous Summer Villa landscape — the aqueduct scene flowing into the riverside grove, the ox resting beneath the great tree, the anglers casting their lines in the distance. Or a wide dresser transformed into a gallery-worthy statement piece, its surface reading like a framed engraving from a grand European estate. Because the pigment stays active until sealed, you can blend, soften, and layer each impression to achieve the depth and tonal variation of a true antique print.
What’s Included
- 8 sheets, each 12" × 16", in a grey-and-white engraving palette
- Sheet 1: Open sky with layered clouds and a distant bird in flight; treetops emerging from the lower right
- Sheet 2: Dense hardwood canopy — a towering tree with full leafy crown against a hatched sky
- Sheet 3: Pastoral mid-ground — a tall slender tree beside a large boulder with a resting animal; shrubs and a distant building in the background
- Sheet 4: Riverside scene — a reclining ox in the foreground, a rowboat with figures on the water, and ruined stone walls with an arched bridge in the background
- Sheet 5: Aqueduct and anglers — two figures fishing from a rocky bank beneath a stone arch bridge, with reeds and grasses in the foreground
- Sheet 6: Forest interior — a tall vine-wrapped tree trunk rising through dense layered foliage with a misty lake beyond
- Sheets 7 & 8: Additional coordinating landscape panels for seamless large-scale compositions
Works On
- Furniture, panels, trays, and large-scale home décor surfaces
- Any surface prepared with mineral-based chalk-type paint
- Wax-sealed or topcoat-finished pieces
Application Tips
- Apply to wet chalk-type paint for best adhesion; work in 12" × 16" sections
- Use gridlines on the back of each sheet to align panels and create seamless large-scale landscape compositions
- Spritz lightly with water, press design side down, and peel gently from one corner at a low angle
- Blend or soften edges with a damp cloth while pigment is still active to achieve a painterly, aged effect
- Seal with a water-based polyurethane or wax once dry; minimum two topcoats recommended
- For an antique finish, apply a light wash of raw umber or grey paint over the sealed surface and wipe back
