Turn back the clock with the Seed Catalogue Transfer by Iron Orchid Designs — a love letter to the golden age of American horticulture. Drawn from the richly illustrated seed catalogues of the late 1800s and early 1900s, this collection captures the vibrant chromolithograph covers and engraved botanical plates that once graced the pages of L.L. May & Co., Alneer Brothers, J. Steckler Seed Co., and Maule’s — names that defined a generation of gardeners.

Imagine a vintage dresser adorned with lush dahlias and climbing clematis, a tray layered with sepia-toned rose wreaths and pea pod illustrations, or a cabinet front featuring a full seed catalogue cover in all its chromolithograph glory. These transfers bring that warm, storied nostalgia directly to your painted furniture and décor.

Each set includes eight sheets packed with full catalogue covers, individual botanical specimens, fruit illustrations, sepia engravings, and decorative typography elements — all ready to cut apart and compose.

What's Included

  • 8 sheets of transfers
  • Full vintage seed catalogue covers: L.L. May & Co. (1898, 1906, 1909, 1911), Alneer Brothers (1898), J. Steckler Seed Co. (1898)
  • Botanical specimens: dahlias, clematis, roses, strawberries, peas, plums, apples
  • Sepia-toned engraved flower plates with period typography
  • Rich chromolithograph palette: deep reds, pinks, greens, golds, and creams

How to Apply

  1. Cut out your desired transfer elements, keeping the protective backing in place.
  2. Position the transfer on your surface and secure corners with tape.
  3. Rub firmly from one corner using the provided tool until fully adhered.
  4. Peel back the sheet — re-lay and rub any areas that haven’t transferred.
  5. Smooth down with a clean, dry hand and burnish edges.
  6. Seal with a water-based, solvent-free topcoat.

Tips for Best Results

  • Surface should be clean, dry, and fully cured.
  • Avoid application in extreme temperatures, humidity, or wind.
  • Do not apply over chalky or mineral-based paint without sealing first with a water-based polyurethane finish.
  • Not intended for outdoor use or prolonged direct sunlight.
