Wild, poetic, and deeply American — the IOD Desperado Transfer by Iron Orchid Designs is an eight-sheet rub-on transfer collection that captures the spirit of the open frontier. Drawing from the visual language of the American West, folk art, vintage concert culture, and romantic handwritten correspondence, Desperado is a richly layered set that tells a story of freedom, wandering, and beauty found off the beaten path.
With eight full 12” × 16” transfer sheets spanning botanical line art, bison illustrations, handwritten journal text, tribal geometric borders, and vintage Americana poster art, this is one of IOD’s most eclectic and versatile transfer collections — equally at home on a rustic reclaimed wood panel, a painted industrial cabinet, or a bohemian bedroom dresser.
What's Included
-
Eight 12” × 16” transfer sheets:
- Sheet 1 — Botanical Peonies: Large-scale fine-line botanical illustration featuring open peony/rose blooms, buds, and richly detailed leaves in a loose, flowing arrangement — corner cluster, large central bloom, and trailing leaf vine
- Sheet 2 — Bison & Selah: Large highly detailed bison illustration (full body, side profile), small bison silhouette, “selah” in flowing script, and the Emerson quote: “Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”
- Sheet 3 — Handwritten Journal: Full-page handwritten cursive letter/journal text with a loose wire or branch frame overlay — layered, organic, and deeply personal in feel
- Sheets 4 & 5 — Tribal Geometric Borders (x2): Six bold vertical tribal/geometric border strips in a distressed linocut style — diamond lattice, triangle chevron, hourglass chain, double diamond, elongated diamond, and double line stripe — two identical sheets included for repeating patterns
- Sheet 6 — Little Stevie Concert Poster: Full vintage Americana concert poster — “Little Stevie and the Merchants” — featuring a winged banjo centerpiece, bold mixed-typeface poster lettering (Mohawk Lounge, Community Centre, Friday Night, 8PM Til Late, Blue Grass Jazz & Blues, Live!, Tickets $5), decorative stars, and a distressed letterpress texture throughout
- Sheets 7 & 8: Additional transfer content (see all sheet images for full detail)
- Application tool included
- Made in Taiwan
Application Instructions
- Carefully select and cut out your transfer pieces, keeping the protective backing with the transfer
- Position the transfer on your surface and secure corners with tape
- Using the provided tool, start at one corner and rub firmly and evenly to adhere the transfer
- Peel back the sheet — if any area hasn’t transferred, lay the sheet back down and rub again
- Smooth down any loose areas with a clean, dry hand; burnish firmly with a clean soft cloth
- Protect with a surface-appropriate sealer that does not contain strong solvents
Perfect For
- Furniture upcycling — rustic, industrial, bohemian, and Americana-style painted pieces
- Reclaimed wood panels & wall art
- Bedroom dressers, cabinets, trunks & headboards with a Western or folk aesthetic
- Mixed media & art journaling — layered vintage Americana compositions
- Bohemian, Western, industrial & maximalist interiors
Important Tips
- Keep transfer with protective backing until ready to apply
- Surface should be clean, dry, and flat; paint must be fully cured
- Chalk, mineral, and mineral-based furniture paints adhere best when sealed with a water-based polyurethane prior to applying transfers
- Do not apply in extreme temperatures or humid conditions
- Avoid strong solvent-based topcoats — these can adversely affect the bond
- Not intended for outdoor use or direct sunlight
- The tribal border strips (Sheets 4 & 5) are duplicated — use both for seamless repeating vertical patterns across large surfaces
