Create your own cast ornamental frames with the Frames Decor Mould by Iron Orchid Designs. Five frame elements — from a large Baroque rectangular panel with inset oval portrait frame to a small plain square frame — all with smooth blank interiors ready to be painted into, gilded, or layered with IOD transfers. Cast them in IOD Decor Mousse or air-dry clay and apply directly to furniture, walls, mirrors, and trays for a finish that looks like genuine applied plasterwork or carved gesso.

The Frames mould is the three-dimensional companion to the Petits Ornements gilded foil transfer set — where Petits Ornements gives you flat gold foil frames, the Frames mould gives you frames with genuine physical depth and relief that cast shadows and catch light like real carved ornament. Apply a Petits Ornements gilded transfer inside a cast Frames oval for a fully dimensional gilded medallion. Or fill the blank frame interiors with a painted scene, a cameo transfer, or a handwritten name in chalk marker. The possibilities are genuinely endless.

Mould Elements and Media Quantities

  • Large Baroque Rectangular Panel with Oval Portrait Frame — large rectangular panel with stepped moulding border and central Rococo acanthus oval portrait frame with beaded inner border — 12ml / 18g (oval element)
  • Small Plain Square Frame — small square frame with simple stepped moulding border and plain interior — 9.5ml / 14g
  • Large Baroque Acanthus Rectangular Frame — large rectangular frame with dense Baroque acanthus scroll and floral corner ornaments, plain interior — 39ml / 59g
  • Medium Baroque Acanthus Rectangular Frame — medium rectangular frame with Baroque acanthus scroll corner ornaments, plain interior — 20ml / 30g
  • Large Rococo Oval Frame — large oval frame with beaded rope border, acanthus scroll and shell crest, and acanthus scroll base, plain interior — 29ml / 44g

Design Applications

  • Apply the large Baroque rectangular frame to a cabinet door panel for an instant architectural plasterwork effect — fill the interior with a painted scene or IOD transfer
  • Use the large Rococo oval as a standalone statement piece on a tray, mirror, or headboard panel — apply a Cameos portrait transfer inside for a fully dimensional cameo medallion
  • Apply Petits Ornements gilded foil transfers inside the cast frame interiors for a fully dimensional gilded frame effect
  • Use the small square frame as a repeating accent across a set of drawers or a gallery wall arrangement
  • Combine the large rectangular panel with the Angelic Tapers or Christmas Tapers moulds flanking each side for a full architectural panel composition
  • Paint in antique white and dry-brush with gold wax for a classic gilded plasterwork finish

How to Use

  1. Press your chosen medium firmly into the mould, working from the center outward to eliminate air pockets in the frame border detail.
  2. Smooth the back flat with a palette knife or your finger.
  3. Allow to set or cure fully according to your medium's instructions.
  4. Flex the silicone mould gently to release the cast frame.
  5. Adhere to your surface using strong craft adhesive or gel medium.
  6. Once dry, paint, gild, dry-brush, or wax over the frame to integrate it with your piece.

Tips for Best Results

  • Use the media quantity guides on the mould to measure your medium before pressing — the large Baroque rectangular frame at 39ml/59g requires significant medium volume.
  • For the large rectangular frames: press medium in sections across the full frame and smooth joins carefully before the medium sets.
  • Press medium firmly into all acanthus scroll and corner ornament cavities to capture the full relief detail.
  • Lightly mist the mould with water before pressing in air-dry clay to prevent sticking.
  • For IOD Decor Mousse: press firmly, scrape the back flat, and allow to air-dry in the mould for 15-20 minutes before releasing (longer than smaller elements due to depth and volume).
  • The smooth blank frame interiors can be painted, stamped, or have IOD transfers applied after casting and painting.
  • Prime cast pieces before painting for best paint adhesion.
