Build a complete trompe l'oeil wood framework on any painted surface with the Faux Bois Decor Mould by Iron Orchid Designs. Ten elements - four long border strips and six joinery connector pieces - that work together as a complete modular system for creating cast faux wood panelling, bamboo frameworks, rustic branch borders, and trellis effects on furniture, walls, and decorative panels.

Two distinct material vocabularies give you complete creative flexibility. The bamboo elements - with their characteristic segmented culm, node rings, and fine longitudinal grain - create the clean architectural lines of a Japanese-inspired bamboo trellis or a Chinoiserie cabinet framework. The gnarled branch elements - with their deeply textured bark, knot holes, budding side shoots, and unfurling leaves - create the organic rustic character of a woodland bower or cottage garden trellis. Mix both vocabularies in a single composition for a naturalistic hybrid. Micro-Rims and Measure Marks are built into the mould.

Design Applications

• Build a full bamboo trellis framework across a large cabinet door: bamboo strips as rails, cross-joints at intersections, T-junctions at edges, L-corners at the four corners
• Create a rustic branch bower frame around a mirror or headboard using the gnarled branch strips and branch cross-joint
• Apply bamboo strips as a border around a cabinet door panel, connecting at corners with the L-joint and corner block
• Mix bamboo and branch elements for a naturalistic hybrid framework
• Combine with Dewdrop Pond or Birdsong mould elements applied inside the bamboo framework for a complete Japanese-inspired nature panel
• Paint in sage green, warm cream, or natural bamboo tan and finish with raw umber dry-brush for a weathered outdoor trellis finish

How to Use

1. Plan your framework composition on paper first - mark where strips, crosses, T-junctions, and corners will connect.
2. Press your chosen medium firmly into each mould element, working from the center outward.
3. Smooth the back flat with a palette knife or your finger.
4. Allow to set or cure fully according to your medium's instructions.
5. Flex the silicone mould gently to release each cast element.
6. Lay all elements out on your surface before adhering to check alignment and fit.
7. Adhere using strong craft adhesive or gel medium, starting with the corner pieces and working inward.
8. Once dry, paint, dry-brush, or wax over the framework to finish.

Tips for Best Results

• Use the Measure Marks on the mould to measure your medium before pressing.
• Plan before you press - sketch your framework and calculate how many of each element you need. The strips can be cast multiple times from the same mould.
• For the bamboo node rings: press medium firmly into the node ring cavities to capture the characteristic segmented bamboo detail.
• For the gnarled branch bark texture: press medium very firmly into all bark line and knot hole cavities - these are the deepest areas.
• Lightly mist the mould with water before pressing in air-dry clay to prevent sticking.
• For IOD Decor Mousse: press firmly, scrape the back flat, and allow to air-dry for 10-15 minutes before releasing.
• Cast all elements before adhering any - lay the complete framework out on your surface first to check alignment.
• Prime cast pieces before painting for best paint adhesion.
