Drape your furniture in the opulence of a gilded age with the Emporium Gilded Foil Transfer by Iron Orchid Designs. Unlike cut-apart vignette transfers, Emporium is designed for full-surface coverage — eight sheets of seamlessly repeating gold foil patterns that tile across cabinet fronts, drawer faces, tabletops, and trays to create the look of gilded wallpaper, embossed leather, or antique brocade.
Imagine a wardrobe front shimmering with a full Baroque damask in burnished gold, a cabinet side wrapped in cursive script like a gilded love letter, or a tray surface covered in a dotted Rococo medallion pattern that catches the light from every angle. Emporium makes large-scale gilded transformations achievable — and breathtaking.
The Eight Designs
- Cursive Script (×2 sheets) — dense, flowing gold cursive handwriting in two panels per sheet, evoking a gilded letter or journal page; warm gold-to-amber gradient
- Baroque Floral Damask — bold, all-over repeating Baroque damask with large stylized floral medallions, acanthus scrolls, and symmetrical foliate motifs; rich gold on white
- Dotted Rococo Medallion Damask — delicate all-over Rococo pattern with oval floral medallions, dotted bead chains, hanging tassels, and urn-and-flower centerpieces; fine gold on white
- Victorian Newspaper Columns — full-sheet reproduction of period newspaper columns in gold foil, including Home Economics, Hikers, Conference, Personals, Lynwood Hall Party sections; warm gold on white
- Gothic Floral Damask — dense, interlocking Gothic floral lattice with stylized thistle, acanthus, and fleur-de-lis motifs in the manner of William Morris; rich gold on white
- Engraved Peony & Tulip Chintz — all-over repeating engraved botanical chintz with full-blown peonies, tulips, forget-me-nots, and climbing stems in fine intaglio line work; warm gold on white
What's Included
- 8 sheets of gilded foil transfers, each 12" × 16"
- All-over repeating patterns designed for full-surface coverage
- Lustrous gold foil finish with warm gold-to-amber gradient
- Bonus: spent sheets can be reused with gold leaf adhesive size to apply the negative design
How to Apply Gilded Transfers
- Seal painted or porous surfaces with a satin or semi-gloss sealer and allow to dry thoroughly before applying.
- Carefully select and cut out your transfer pieces, keeping the protective backing with the transfer.
- Hovering over the surface, position the transfer piece where you want to apply it.
- Put the transfer in place (optionally secure corners with small piece of low grip tape).
- Using the provided tool, start in one corner and rub with firm, even pressure to adhere the transfer. Continue across the design until fully adhered.
- Remove the sheet and smooth down any loose areas with a clean, dry hand. Burnish firmly to ensure maximum adhesion.
- Seal with two topcoats of a water-based sealer to enhance durability.
Bonus technique: After use, do not discard spent sheets. Apply gold leaf adhesive size to your project surface, allow to become tacky (not wet), then apply the spent sheet and burnish to transfer the negative design in gold.
Tips for Best Results
- Take extra care to keep the transfer with the protective backing until you are ready to apply.
- Keep free of dust or debris, which will interfere with adhesion.
- Do not allow the adhesive side to touch anything prior to application.
- Surface should be clean, dry, fully cured, and sealed before applying.
- If using chalky or mineral-based paint, seal with a water-based polyurethane finish prior to applying.
- Avoid solvent-based topcoats, which can adversely affect the bond.
- Not intended for outdoor use or constant direct sunlight.
