Bring the living world of a summer pond to your painted furniture and decor with the Dewdrop Pond Decor Mould by Iron Orchid Designs. Ten elements drawn from the naturalist tradition — a hummingbird in full flight, a lace-winged dragonfly, a pond turtle, a tree frog, a large pond frog, a gecko, a garden snail, a spiral snail shell, a fern frond, and a tiny ladybird — all sculpted in extraordinary naturalist relief that rivals museum-quality specimen illustration. Every scale on the turtle shell, every vein in the dragonfly wing, every toe pad on the tree frog is individually rendered in deep, crisp detail.

Dewdrop Pond is the most naturalistically detailed mould in the IOD range. The dragonfly wing venation alone is a technical marvel — hundreds of individual cells captured in silicone at a scale that reads like genuine entomological illustration when cast and dry-brushed. Compose a full pond scene across a large cabinet door, scatter individual creatures across a set of drawers, or use the hummingbird and dragonfly as statement pieces on a tray or mirror frame. Media quantity guides are printed directly on the mould sheet for every element.

Mould Elements and Media Quantities

  • Spiral Snail Shell — tall spiral gastropod shell with fine ribbing — 3.7ml / 5.6g
  • Pond Turtle — freshwater turtle with detailed scute-patterned shell, head extended — 8.4ml / 13g
  • Hummingbird in Flight — large hummingbird with wings spread wide, every feather individually sculpted — 16ml / 24g

  • Garden Snail — garden snail with spiral shell and extended body — 5.9ml / 8.9g

  • Large Pond Frog — large resting frog with fully textured skin, prominent eyes, and splayed legs — 15ml / 22g
  • Gecko / Salamander — long-tailed gecko or salamander with scaled skin and splayed feet — 5.1ml / 7.6g

Design Applications

  • Compose a full pond scene: hummingbird upper centre, dragonfly upper right, fern frond centre, large frog lower centre, turtle lower left, snail lower right, ladybird as accent — a complete naturalist panel for a large cabinet door
  • Apply the hummingbird and dragonfly as a paired statement composition on a tray, mirror frame, or headboard panel
  • Scatter individual creatures across a set of drawers — one creature per drawer front for a naturalist cabinet of curiosities effect
  • Combine with IOD botanical transfers (Wilde Bloemen, Wander 2) for a layered naturalist scene mixing cast relief creatures with flat transfer botanicals
  • Paint in sage green, duck egg blue, or warm cream and finish with raw umber dry-brush for a naturalist illustration palette

How to Use

  1. Press your chosen medium firmly into the mould, working from the center outward to eliminate air pockets in the fine detail areas.
  2. Smooth the back flat with a palette knife or your finger.
  3. Allow to set or cure fully according to your medium's instructions.
  4. Flex the silicone mould gently to release the cast ornament.
  5. Adhere to your surface using strong craft adhesive or gel medium.
  6. Once dry, paint, gild, dry-brush, or wax over the ornament to integrate it with your piece.

Tips for Best Results

  • Use the media quantity guides on the mould to measure your medium before pressing.
  • For the dragonfly: press medium very firmly into all wing venation cavities and allow to cure fully before releasing — the fine wing detail is delicate until fully set.
  • For the hummingbird: press medium in sections across the wing span and smooth joins carefully before the medium sets.
  • Lightly mist the mould with water before pressing in air-dry clay to prevent sticking.
  • For IOD Decor Mousse: press firmly, scrape the back flat, and allow to air-dry in the mould for 10-15 minutes before releasing.
  • Naturalist finish: paint in cream or warm white, allow to dry, then apply a thin wash of raw umber thinned with water and wipe back the high points for a specimen illustration effect.
  • Prime cast pieces before painting for best paint adhesion.
