Add the unmistakable glamour of real gold to your painted furniture and décor with the Curated Signage Gilded Foil Transfer by Iron Orchid Designs. Four full 12" × 16" sheets of lavish gold foil designs — each one a richly detailed vignette drawn from Victorian music publishing, Egyptian mythology, whimsical signage, and French Rococo florals — ready to mix, match, and compose at will.

Unlike standard IOD transfers, these gilded transfers apply as luminous gold foil, catching the light with every angle. Apply them to painted furniture, mirrors, trays, frames, and canvas for a finish that looks genuinely gilded. And don’t discard the spent sheets — the negative designs can be used again with gold leaf adhesive size for a second, equally stunning effect.

The Four Designs

  • Madame R. Sidney Pratten’s Repertoire for the Guitar — ornate Victorian music title page with Royal crest, sweeping calligraphic flourishes, and the full publication details of Her Royal Highness the Princess Louise’s guitar teacher, published at 22a Dorset Street, Portman Sq., London
  • Queen of the Nile — Lotions & Potions — a commanding Egyptian goddess figure surrounded by florals, with the legend “The most discerning women wear Queen of the Nile products. Do not accept substitutes.” and “Only the finest spices and extracts are used.”
  • The Finicky Fox / Boston’s Finest Espresso — a leaping fox vignette encircled by pine fronds with bold curved typography: The Finicky Fox Café and Boston’s Finest — Breakfast, Lunch, Espresso
  • Journal des Roses / La Fleur — a full Rococo French magazine cover with cherubs, roses, and the masthead of Journal des Roses (Rosa inter Flores), Revue d’Arboriculture Ornementale, and La Fleur — Les Gravures Françaises du XVIIIᵉ Siècle, published by Marcus Ward & Co., London, 1882

What's Included

  • 4 sheets of gilded foil transfers, each 12" × 16"
  • Lustrous gold foil finish — catches light from every angle
  • Bonus: spent sheets can be reused with gold leaf adhesive size to apply the negative design

How to Apply Gilded Transfers

  1. Seal painted or porous surfaces with a satin or semi-gloss sealer and allow to dry thoroughly before applying.
  2. Carefully select and cut out your transfer pieces, keeping the protective backing with the transfer.
  3. Hovering over the surface, position the transfer piece where you want to apply it.
  4. Put the transfer in place (optionally secure corners with small piece of low grip tape).
  5. Using the provided tool, start in one corner and rub with firm, even pressure to adhere the transfer. Continue across the design until fully adhered.
  6. Remove the sheet and smooth down any loose areas with a clean, dry hand. Burnish firmly to ensure maximum adhesion. You can leave as is or gently distress with fine sandpaper.
  7. Seal with two topcoats of a water-based sealer to enhance durability.

Bonus technique: After use, do not discard spent sheets. Apply gold leaf adhesive size to your project surface, allow to become tacky (not wet), then apply the spent sheet and burnish to transfer the negative design in gold.

Tips for Best Results

  • Take extra care to keep the transfer with the protective backing until you are ready to apply.
  • Keep free of dust or debris, which will interfere with adhesion.
  • Do not allow the adhesive side to touch anything prior to application, and avoid letting the adhesive side touch itself.
  • Do not store in extreme temperatures or humid conditions.
  • Recommended surface: clean, dry, and flat. Paint must be fully cured and stable.
  • If using chalky or mineral-based paint, seal with a water-based polyurethane finish prior to applying.
  • Avoid solvent-based topcoats, which can adversely affect the bond.
  • Not intended for outdoor use or constant direct sunlight.
