Bring the magic of a Victorian Christmas to your painted furniture and decor with the Christmas Tapers Decor Mould by Iron Orchid Designs. Four long, tapering ornaments — each one a richly detailed Christmas character or symbol rendered in extraordinary sculptural relief — designed to be applied as flanking ornaments on cabinet doors, mirror frames, headboards, armoires, and architectural panels. Like the Angelic Tapers, these are designed to be cast in pairs, flipped to create mirrored compositions, and applied vertically for maximum drama.
The four tapers span the full range of Victorian Christmas imagery: a jolly snowman framed by Baroque acanthus scrolls and heart motifs, a blazing Star of Bethlehem with Gothic tracery, a lacy openwork snowflake on a turned finial stem, and the most extraordinary of all — a full Father Christmas face with flowing beard, holly crown, and poinsettia garland, his expression warm and wise. Each taper is a standalone work of art that transforms a plain painted piece into something genuinely magical.

Design Applications
- Apply as mirrored pairs flanking a cabinet door panel or mirror frame — cast two of the same taper and flip one for a symmetrical composition
- Apply all four tapers vertically across a large wardrobe or armoire for a full Christmas character gallery
- Use the Father Christmas taper as a single statement centrepiece on a large tray, canvas, or headboard panel
- Combine with the Angelic Tapers mould for a full set of eight flanking ornaments across a very large piece
- Pair with Tinsel or Figgy and Flourish gilded transfers applied around the tapers for a fully gilded Christmas composition
- Paint in antique white and dry-brush with silver or gold wax for a luminous Victorian Christmas finish
How to Use
- Press your chosen medium firmly into the mould, working from the center outward to eliminate air pockets in the detail areas.
- Smooth the back flat with a palette knife or your finger.
- Allow to set or cure fully according to your medium's instructions.
- Flex the silicone mould gently to release the cast ornament.
- Adhere to your surface using strong craft adhesive or gel medium.
- Once dry, paint, gild, dry-brush, or wax over the ornament to integrate it with your piece.
Tips for Best Results
- Use the media quantity guides on the mould to measure your medium before pressing.
- Press medium firmly into the face detail on the Father Christmas taper — the beard curls and facial features require particular attention.
- For the snowflake openwork detail: press medium firmly into all the lacy cavities and allow to cure fully before releasing to avoid breakage.
- Lightly mist the mould with water before pressing in air-dry clay to prevent sticking.
- For IOD Decor Mousse: press firmly, scrape the back flat, and allow to air-dry in the mould for 15 minutes before releasing.
- Cast two of the same taper and flip one to create a perfectly mirrored pair.
- Prime cast pieces before painting for best paint adhesion.
