Make a bold statement with the Chanticleer Decor Mould by Iron Orchid Designs — a large-scale, high-drama mould featuring two magnificent roosters in extraordinary feather-by-feather relief, flanked by sweeping Baroque acanthus scroll ornaments. Named for the proud rooster of medieval fable, Chanticleer brings the grandeur of French country chateau decoration to any painted surface: a kitchen dresser, a farmhouse cabinet, a statement mirror frame, or a large tray.
The two roosters are a natural mirrored pair — one left-facing, one right-facing — each standing on a leafy ground base with tail feathers fanning dramatically behind them. Between them rises a central acanthus plume, and large sweeping acanthus C-scroll ornaments anchor each corner. The level of sculptural detail is exceptional: every feather, every scale on the leg, every curl of the comb is individually rendered in deep relief that catches the light and shadow like genuine carved plaster. Cast in cream or antique white and dry-brush with raw umber or gold wax for a finish that looks like it belongs on a 19th-century French farmhouse armoire.
Mould Elements
- Left-Facing Rooster — large rooster standing on leafy ground base, tail feathers fanning left, every feather and leg scale individually sculpted in deep relief
- Right-Facing Rooster — mirror of above, tail feathers fanning right — use as a matched pair flanking a cabinet panel or door
- Central Acanthus Plume — tall upright acanthus leaf plume, ideal as a centrepiece between the two roosters or as a standalone vertical ornament
- Large Acanthus C-Scroll (Left) — sweeping Baroque acanthus C-scroll corner ornament, facing left
- Large Acanthus C-Scroll (Right) — mirror of above, facing right — use as matched corner ornaments
Note: media quantity guides may be printed on the mould sheet — refer to your mould for exact ml/g measurements per element. The rooster elements are large and will require significant media volume.
Design Applications
- Apply the full composition: left and right roosters flanked by acanthus scrolls with the central plume between them — a complete Baroque farmhouse panel for a large cabinet door or dresser front
- Use the mirrored rooster pair facing each other across a headboard or wardrobe for a symmetrical statement
- Apply a single rooster as a standalone centrepiece on a large tray, canvas, or mirror frame
- Use the acanthus C-scrolls alone as corner ornaments on a frame or cabinet — they pair beautifully with the Acanthus Scroll mould
- Paint in terracotta, sage green, or deep navy and dry-brush with gold wax for a rich French country palette
How to Use
- Press your chosen medium firmly into the mould, working from the center outward to eliminate air pockets in the feather detail.
- Smooth the back flat with a palette knife or your finger.
- Allow to set or cure fully according to your medium's instructions.
- Flex the silicone mould gently to release the cast ornament.
- Adhere to your surface using strong craft adhesive or gel medium.
- Once dry, paint, gild, dry-brush, or wax over the ornament to integrate it with your piece.
Tips for Best Results
- Press medium firmly into all feather and scale detail cavities — the leg scales and comb require particular attention to capture the full relief.
- For the large rooster elements, press medium in sections and smooth joins carefully before the medium sets.
- Lightly mist the mould with water before pressing in air-dry clay to prevent sticking.
- For IOD Decor Mousse: press firmly, scrape the back flat, and allow to air-dry in the mould for 15-20 minutes before releasing (longer than smaller elements due to depth).
- Dry-brush technique: paint cream or white, allow to dry fully, then lightly drag a brush loaded with raw umber or gold wax across the surface — the raised feather tips catch the colour beautifully.
- Prime cast pieces before painting for best paint adhesion.
