Create an entire cabinet of curiosities with the Cameos Decor Mould by Iron Orchid Designs. Nineteen exquisitely detailed elements — Victorian portrait cameos, a Roman pocket watch, pastoral scene ovals, rose and floral medallions, pendant drops, heart frames, and a tiny flying swallow pair — all sculpted in the deep intaglio relief of genuine antique cameo jewellery. Cast them in IOD Decor Mousse or air-dry clay, paint in cream, ivory, or antique white, and apply to furniture, frames, mirrors, trays, and boxes for a finish that looks like genuine applied porcelain or carved shell.

The Cameos mould is one of the most versatile in the IOD range — the 19 elements range from the large 16ml Flora goddess portrait (a statement piece on its own) down to a 0.3ml flying swallow pair small enough to accent a drawer pull. Arrange a full cameo gallery across a cabinet door, scatter individual medallions across a set of drawers, or use the pendant teardrop and oval as jewellery-inspired accents on a tray or box. Every element has the portrait-quality detail of a Victorian brooch.

Design Applications

  • Arrange a full cameo gallery across a large cabinet door — mix portrait ovals, floral medallions, and the pocket watch for a Victorian cabinet of curiosities effect
  • Apply the large Flora portrait as a single statement centrepiece on a tray, mirror, or headboard panel
  • Scatter small floral ovals and pendant drops across a set of drawers or a frame as repeating jewellery-inspired accents
  • Use the flying swallow pair as tiny accent elements between larger cameos
  • Combine with IOD gilded foil transfers — apply a Petits Ornements frame around a cameo portrait for a fully gilded medallion effect
  • Paint in antique ivory and dry-brush with raw umber for a genuine antique cameo finish

How to Use

  1. Press your chosen medium firmly into the mould, working from the center outward to eliminate air pockets in the portrait detail.
  2. Smooth the back flat with a palette knife or your finger.
  3. Allow to set or cure fully according to your medium's instructions.
  4. Flex the silicone mould gently to release the cast ornament.
  5. Adhere to your surface using strong craft adhesive or gel medium.
  6. Once dry, paint, gild, dry-brush, or wax over the ornament to integrate it with your piece.

Tips for Best Results

  • Press medium firmly into all portrait detail cavities — the face and hair areas require particular attention to capture the full intaglio relief.
  • Lightly mist the mould with water before pressing in air-dry clay to prevent sticking.
  • For IOD Decor Mousse: press firmly, scrape the back flat, and allow to air-dry in the mould for 10-15 minutes before releasing.
  • Antique finish: paint in cream or ivory, allow to dry, then apply raw umber or burnt sienna paint thinned with water into the recesses and wipe back the high points with a damp cloth.
  • Prime cast pieces before painting for best paint adhesion.
